Singing class
Palo: Tientos y Tangos de Malaga – Cantes de Piyayo
The tientos & tangos de Malaga, fully influenced from aires of Guajiras, cantes de Levante, and also sounds from Granada, are based on the compas of Tangos (4/4) and that is why it mainly belongs to the Tangos familly.
In the class we will learn the rhythmic behavior of the letra (singing), the melodic scales, and the small «melismas» while we sing. We will also work closely with our guitarist, to understand the guitar accompaniment to our singing.
We will also work on video material, analysing different structures for our letras (singing)
At the end of the class, we will have a full singing piece (with singing and guitar), ready to be sung and danced!
Bio
Yota “Baron” was born in Serres (northern Greece). Her influences since her childhood include traditional Greek music, as almost half of her family were street musicians. She was raised in an institution for children, where she learned to sing Byzantine Music (songs and hymns forming part of the Christian liturgical rite). She studied Finance (Technological Educational Institute of Athens), Social Anthropology (Panteion University of Athens) and has a Master on Integrated Human Rights from Foundation Academy, part of VU University, Amsterdam.

She appeared as the only Greek Flamenco singer in her country and due to her passion to learn and sing more, she started investigating ways to make flamenco singing more approachable to the audience. Soon, she started organizing her own performances, first in small theaters and pubs, and later in festivals and important halls of Greece, Turkey and Germany.
She currently lives in Amsterdam, running a flamenco production company named “Yota Baron Flamenco Productions”, organizing festivals, performances and flamenco concerts. She is an active flamenco singer and singing teacher, giving workshops and regular classes in Germany, the Netherlands and Greece. She is always in a constant search of ways to combine her Greek music influences with flamenco forms. She is the mother of Charalambos, who has been the source of her inspiration.
